This was our first trip to Madrid and we are very happy to have chosen the Petit Palace Posada del Peine. Although it is right behind the busy Plaza del Mayor, the side street on which it is located is reasonably quiet at night. It has an excellent location and is within walking distance to almost all the places of interest (such as the museums in the Golden Triangle of Art, the Parque del El Retiro on the east and the Royal Palace on the west). The hotel is quite old (400 years) yet is refurbished, looks fabulous from the outside, has an elevator and provides an excellent breakfast. The closest metro station is Sol. It was early December, yet we did not feel the need to use public transportation. Olga end James working at the reception have also recommended us to investigate the Calle de Huertas and Calle de la Cava Baja districts which we are very happy to have done so on foot. Highly recommended to those especially looking for a place really close to the center.
