We were travelling from the Algarve to Santander to catch...
We were travelling from the Algarve to Santander to catch the ferry to UK. This was a perfect place to stopover as it was about 2/3rds of the journey. We set off mid morning, arriving around 1900, in time to relax with a drink on the lovely terrace before dinner in the dungeons (excellent meal - best to book your table online with the castle directly). After a leisurely breakfast, it was an easy 3.5 hour drive to Santander to catch the afternoon ferry.

An excellent mid point stop between The Algarve and Santander The dinner was truly memorable in a beautiful dining room, so lack of fellow diners was a bit of a mystery. The castle itself was of considerable interest.

With a gorgeous setting amidst vineyards, it's the perfect country escape. I only wish the hotel tries to arrange more activities like wine-tasting, horseback riding etc. The restaurant is excellent, prices are not too bad and food quality is amazing.
