The local museum is worth visiting as well as the Valley of Azapa one, which is wonderful.
The beach is nice too.

El Morro was impressive, Azapa is very interesting, the city center was nice, the beaches were good and not too crowded. Above all, the people were very friendly.
There are many good places to eat in the city center. Sometimes they are a little hidden, but look for hidden gems.
Taxi's are a good means of travel and a lot can be reached on foot.

Avoid Playa Chinchurro and go to the Playa Lacua and Playa Livera instead - much cleaner, safer and you can swim there.
Be sure to check out El Morro mirador - it will give you a good sense of the city layout.
Go to San Miguel museum - it's a must-do.
If you want to go to Parque Lauca, be sure to book in advance as tours seem to be only available Dec-Feb.

Arica has some beautiful beaches to stay and relax a few days. 1 day is enough to visit the city center: Plaza Colon and El Morro. Avoid walk around after sunset. From Arica take a taxi to visit the Archaeological Museum of San Miguel of Azapa (it is closed on Mondays).

Small, partially poor and partially dirty town near the border with Peru. OK for a short stay, I would not recommend it for a longer stay, due to the lack of places to see and things to do, to the Chilean arrogance and to the expensive prices
Clean, spacious, comfortable room with views overlooking beach and ocean. Friendly and professional staff. Bar, restaurant and pools were lovely places to relax. It had everything you could want for a few days ocean side relaxing after a packed, high altitude week in the Altiplano! Stunning headland location with beaches either side, desert mountain backdrop and panoramic Pacific sunsets.
Bars, restaurants and food trucks within a 5 minute walk and the centre of Arica is only a 20 minute stroll along the boardwalk.
Location was ideal. Security is important. The staff 'Marta' and others made sure to educate us where not to travel. The beaches are close walking down the road and there's huge mall to shop or eat a Windy's burger. Arica is upscale compared to Montanita, Ecuador or some beaches in Peru. We suggest walking the shoreline and enjoying various beaches and restaurants. The Chili's Peso . IE: 5,000 peso = $5.74 dollars. Or 23,000 mil pesos Colomiano.
The hotel is in a quiet location and a short walk (about 45 minutes) from the city. The private beach was an unexpected bonus!
Breakfast was fantastic and included fresh fruit, bread and jam, eggs and protein, yogurt with granola and coffee/tea.
The hotel is thoughtfully designed and well decorated; I appreciated the insect netting on the bed as we slept with our door open through the night
The staff were friendly, happy and very helpful.
The entire staff was delightful. I was allowed to check in very early during the slow season. The free breakfast was surprisingly good. A hilariously content tortoise lives in the common area. A hilariously self-impressed dachshund roams elsewhere. From my experience this was very much like a hotel with single rooms. I don't know about the availability of actual hostel dorms, but it's a fabulous physical space with a lovely and helpful staff.
The staff is very welcoming, makes you feel at home and takes care of every request you might have (i.e. about tours to National Park Lauca or other). The room is clean and comfortable, and the patio with the tree is full of maps of Arica and surroundings, to give you some ideas about what's worth exploring. And, it's silent at night. I would go there again anytime :)
The Hotel is right at the beach. A number of Discos/night clubs are close neighbors. However, there is no noise in the hotel room or at most minimal if you are noise sensitive. Parking in front of the hotel is good, but the main parking is a sort of remote and I did not feel safe there. From the room you have a great view on the beach.
Cecilia makes you feel at home! We were only in Arica for a quick overnight stay, so the location near the bus station and the beach was perfect for us. Cecilia also gave us recommendations for an evening outing. The room and bed were very comfortable and exactly what we needed.
The hotel is a bit out of downtown Arica but thats what makes it special. It's quiet, has everything you need on the grounds and a front row seat to the Pacific ocean. We found it very relaxing. The food from the restaurant was superb and the staff really does try to please.
We paid 29000 clp, which is a fair price compared to other places we've seen in Chile. The staff was friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was good. Beds comfy and shower hot. Location is close to the beach and walking distance from bus terminals.
Wonderful hotel at a good price for Arica. Excellent restaurant, Rayu, half a block away. (Other choices also nearby.) Lovely beachside park across the street is full of families in the evening. A large choice of food at breakfast.
A wonderful place to visit! Dora was an excellent host and would regularly check up on us and tell us where the best locations to go to in Arica! It gives off a lovely communal vibe and I will definitely be back!
Nice hotel with good service, the pool needs maintenance, the gym gets cleaned late but they are on top of it. Breafast is pretty good, but I would like fresh eggs, not cold ones on the buffett pan.
