I liked the atmosphere of the room and that the room had a little sitting area with a couch and chair. that is something that I haven't seen often in other hotels.

It was dry and warm inside, the bathroom was large and well-designed, and the dining area was bright. The staff were friendly and helpful and the location convenient. Beyond that, it's designed to be your standard box-shaped modern hotel and is mediocre within that category, at best. Feels overall dark and gloomy. In particular, outfitting the rooms almost exclusively with spotlight-style lighting mounted at waist-to-chest level makes the room feel a little like and interrogation facility; were it not for the fact that the lighting was so dim that it was more prone to making the interrogated fall asleep than 'fess up. And I'm sure that the interior decorator thought that painting the ceiling dark blue would be very hipster, but it only served to make the room even gloomier. Perhaps I was inordinately jaded by having just moved downhill (at the behest of my employer) from one of the lovely heritage semi-detached B&Bs where I paid less for a whole lot more. But, even so, if I were again compelled to stay in an industrial-style hotel for purposes of business, I'd try one of town's other options (e.g., where I have paid roughly the same for something at least considerably better-designed).

It was everything that one would expect from a Holiday Inn on the edge of town. Which is to say, an average commercial-style hotel that is slightly overpriced for the convenience of being close to the airport in advance of your early-morning departure, with respect to which it is very convenient that a number of taxis sit just outside waiting for you to stumble out at 0430. The staff were nice; the room was clean and bright; the TV of an excellent size for watching playoff hockey. There was a nice little pond next to the building around which to stroll, and perfectly-acceptable fast-ish food (pizza, Asian, sandwiches) within walking distance. Would I stay here for more than one night? Well, no. There are much nicer options in town. But, as a convenient final stop before boarding an early-morning flight, it got the job done just fine.

I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit.
I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit. The facilities for tourists have really increased over the last 20 years and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops for tourists to experience. The sites in a city that is 400 years old are quite varied and there is ready access to nature visiting sites as well within an hour of the city core.
Pack for pretty variable weather that trends to cooler and damper.

The city offers so much history and with a wonderful presentation at The Rooms. We had a fun screeched in ceremony at Christians with skipper Lukey. The view from signal Hill shows it all. Cape spear and Quidi Vidi can not be missed as well. Especially having lunch at the Mallard Cottage and an Iceberg at the brew company. The waterfront in St. John’s is very interesting and worth the walk.

We stayed at this hotel upon arriving at the airport at 2:30 am.
Shuttle was waiting by the time we got to the pick up point. Great service. Friendly reception. Sufficient breakfast offerings. Great staff in all areas. Perfect for our needs.
Unexpectedly, we spent a second night at the end of our trip when our flight to Toronto was cancelled. Again--great staff in all areas.

Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall.
Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall. Very hilly, I will definitely be in better shape before my next visit (the unexpected humidity was exhausting, but we made the best of that!)
Everything was close by, very easy to get around.

Best recommendation is: Take the Metro Bus from your hotel to the Pedestrian Plaza on Water Street for shopping and restaurants. It is closed off for the summer and the shopping is delightful. Lots of outdoor patios. We chose one of the outdoor pubs for fish and chips and a local brew. Perfect! Now walk up the stairs at the Courthouse and see the Jelly Bean Houses. Pier 10 is a great place to see the cruise ships docking. Just down the hill from Water Street, this is where the bus lets you off. Catch the Hop on Hop off for lots of sights - located outside of the Alt Hotel on Water Street.

St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place.
St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place. If you love nature , it is the place for you , yet it also has great restaurants and nightlife and the people there are amazingly friendly and proud of their culture and province . There is a lot of talent from there and the art is amazing .So they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and bring you the best experience ever. !
The location is great. The construction on Kenmount Road meant that we had to take a detour to access the hotel but it was no big deal and is only a temporary situation. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were just right. The room was large and clean. Having a microwave in addition to the mini-fridge is a real asset, plus a clothes iron and board. The staff were very friendly. Great value. I've stayed at this hotel before and will book it again for sure.
I booked online at your hotel for a medical appointment that was 10 hours from where I live! Had a confirmation number for the booking, got there to check in and the hotel said that there wasn’t a reservation for me! The clerk did find me a room at the sister hotel fortunately but it was downtown in an area that I would never have booked a room in but due to nothing available I had to take it but I would never book with Capital again now!
The Duckworth is mine and my boyfriend’s favourite hotel in St Johns. Everytime we visit the city we want to be downtown, not for the bars but for the feel of downtown. The Duckworth is square downtown, affordable, clean, and the old building is beautiful. I think we have stayed in every room possible now and will never stay in another hotel as long as the Duckworth is available.
I was so impressed with the Inn after staying there on my first night in Newfoundland, I booked to stay again on my last night. It's a good value choice just a short walk from the waterfront and the bars and restaurants of Water Street.
Rooms are comfortable and cosy and John the breakfast chef was entertaining and cooked great eggs.
Centrally-located with comfortable rooms - spacious and quiet, with original decor. The staff were very helpful, especially after booking-com had somehow mixed-up our reservation. Everyone was courteous and friendly - an excellent introduction to Newfoundland hospitality.
What a find! Especially in talking and sharing stories with Robert and the other guests over a leisurely breakfast in the kitchen. We were within walking distance to many of the downtown sights as well as the ambitions Signal Hill. Parking was easy and we liked our room.
The location of the place worked well for us, it was close to the highway and not too far from downtown so it was easy to move back and forth. It was also close to our car rental location. Breakfast wasn’t provided but they did have muffins, coffee and tea.
The hotel is modern and situated in the heart of downtown. We had beautiful views of the Harbour from our room. Access to restaurants and local attractions was very easy and quick. The room was wonderful and had some nice amenities like automatic blinds.
Traditional breakfast. Buffet is fast and thus suitable. Coffee is possible take away. Nice place changed to here from down town hotel, that was not confortable. Lots of dining places around, one across. Large parking lot available for free. TV is good.
Very convenient location to downtown. In suite laundry and well-appointed kitchenette. Fireplace was nice. Excellent shower and bath. Very quiet, never heard another guest. The workout room was well equipped. Suite was a generous size.
Great hotel in a nice location near downtown (10min walk). The room we had was spacious and there is a shared breakfast area with all the amenities you might need (fridge, coffee maker, etc) on the main floor.
The view from the room was incredible. The room was immaculate, clean, quiet and very modern but with a Newfoundland “feel” to it. Hands down the best hotel stay I’ve ever had.
We upgraded to a beautiful room with a hot tub (although jets didn’t work). Hotel is kept immaculate. Breakfast in the morning was nice. 15 min walk to downtown.
