Its a historic town whose glory has now faded.

Its a historic town whose glory has now faded. The Big Hole was definitely worth a visit, but most of the other historic houses and museums that we wanted to visit are closed during the weekend. (so, doesn't make sense for an out of town visitor at all)

People really friendly. Lots of old buildings which 8s amazing. Roads terrible though but everything else perfect. Great halaal places to eat was Don Boi and Mini Pakistan. Went to see the the Big Hole and learnt some great history. Places are really close to each other and easy to find.

The area around the Big Hole are horribly run down.

The area around the Big Hole are horribly run down. It has wonderful late- Victorian architecture and if the authorities got their act together, it would be a great tourist attraction. The Big Hole museum is well run, but so much more could be done with the once fabulous outdoor museum (replica of the original old town)

The CBD (city centre) was incredibly dirty (litter everywhere) and felt mildly unsafe. This is sadly and unfortunately true of so many towns/cities (both small and large) throughout South Africa these days. The Big Hole Museum was a surprising breath of fresh air in an otherwise dirty and unwelcoming environment. The city roads were fairly delipidated, with lots of small potholes. Again, this is simply an indictment of the corrupt and distressingly mismanaged municipalities and local government structures operating throughout South Africa.

Official tourist location are limited to the diamond and war history. There ought to be more local adventures that tourists could participate in; Live music concerts, festivals, interesting spaces to connect with other tourist perhaps. Had lunch at the Protea Hotel (The Marriot), using a Bolt (Taxify). The drivers are friendly, so are the wait staff.

It is situated in Royldene a nice suburb of Kimberley. A small luxury hotel, every room is named after a place in Northern Cape. Uniquely designed, well appointed room for discerning traveller. The air conditioner brand Carrier used in the room is quiet. The dinner menu, although short, offers excellent choices. The breakfast is a la carte and well made. We are pleasantly surprised by this high quality establishment in Kimberley.

The hotel is on the edge of the Big Hole, making it a great location, but not within walking distance of restaurants. The staff made us feel most welcome at reception. The dinning room staff need a special shout out, for excellent service. Breakfast and supper buffet style, excellent spread. Relaxing and clean gardens to stroll around, or sit and enjoy a drink/meal.

The sense of privacy was alarming but totally worth every cent. Had an Air BnB vibe to it. We booked one of their apartments. A little living area and kitchen set up. Large bedroom with a bathroom to match. Air BnB isn't big in Kimberley so this was refreshing as someone who loves privacy. Once you get your keys you won't see another soul till you leave.

The service was great! The guy called me before checking in to inform me of a crisis at their premises and assured me that I'd get a room at one of their other lodges (Kimberley Botique), that's where I actually spent the night. The room was neat and clean, so was the bathroom! Top-notch shower! Loved it!
