Italy’s Answer to Vienna
Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the north-west. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.
But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city centre are Roman theatre remains, while columns from the Roman forum stand next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.
The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square houses some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.
Watersports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffee houses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.
Booking.com’s Trieste accommodation includes hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.

When coming to Trieste, you shouldn't miss a stroll to Barcola in the summer a really lovely place to share an afternoon with friends having a swim in trasparent and green sea water.
Trieste offers a wide range of typical food but also international options; in the morning do not miss Via XX Settembre with its characteristic small cafeteria and bars with tasty street food.
At night you can enjoy a drink outside the lively pubs even in winter!
If you like caves, there is the Grotta Gigante, not far from town where you can experiment a journey in one of the tallest European Grotto.
Finally, there are also many hystorical and literary short trips you can book or arrange by yourself downtown or in the not too distant Slovenia.

Trieste is fantastic, very walkable, stunning architecture, good shopping, and plenty of excellent places to wine and dine. Public transport is very accessible for anyone wanting a day trip, perhaps if the weather is not cooperating, and it's very easy to hop on the train to visit Venice for a few hours, or to take a bus trip to Slovenia for the day. Trieste is very high on my list of places to return to as often as possible.

Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting.
Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting. There are loads to see in the area and you can also visit Croatia, Slovenia, as they are very close. It is easy to go from A to B with public transport (although I found the ticket system far too overcomplicated and be prepared that unless you speak / read Italian you will be a bit lost). Driving is not really recommended for inexperienced drivers as the roads are super steep and most of them are narrow. I would not visit the city with small kids in a buggy, because it can be very frustrating to push a buggy on these narrow / steep streets, but if your kids are older than 6-8 and can walk a lot, it is a great area to explore.

A beautiful coastal city, with fantastic facades and beautiful promenades and squares. Close to good beaches and places worth visiting. An excellent starting point for visiting Venice, Istria, Slovenia... Excellent food in restaurants, which are very affordable (20-50 EUR per person). House wines cost 7 EUR for half a liter, and they are excellent. Extremely well stocked stores.
My stay at this hotel in Trieste was truly enjoyable. Its location near Piazza Unità made it incredibly convenient. The self-check-in process was smooth and the staff provided clear and accurate instructions. The apartment itself was spacious and well-appointed, although it might be beneficial for business travelers like myself to have a dedicated workspace, although the kitchen table sufficed. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spacious and clean.
Hotel Milano is located at great location in the center of Trieste, within easy walking distance to the train & bus stations and the most interesting parts of the city itself. The room was simple, but spacious and clean with good bathroom and allowed me for a good night rest. So, if someone is looking where to stay with a need to travel the day after by train or bus, look no further because here is the best value that I definitely recommend.
My family and I had a great time at this pet-firendly Trieste apartment. It was well-equipped with everything we needed and two bathrooms were a nice bonus, saving us from any shower queues. The AC worked flawlessly, and though the city center was a bit far, having Coop and Spar supermarkets on our street was really convenient. The nearby parking made beach trips easy. Overall, a comfortable stay with all the essentials. Highly recommended!
The location was fabulous and the style was fresh. The stairs in the building were surprisingly beautiful, capturing an old-world construction (likely the original stairs), with a modern paint job on the walls, emphasizing the contrast and increasing the feel of the space - only in Italy ;) Additionally, there was complimentary water and wine in the refrigerator, which was a lovely touch.
Perfect location, charming, clean, comfortable, nice staff. Definitely recommend this place and if we go back to Triest will stay there again! We’re lucky and parked our car on the street in front of the hotel (no payment was needed), but anyway if there is no free space, the public parking is very close to the place and the price is ok 10€/24h (it’s just about 4-5 min walking distance).
This a great value for money. The apartment is 7-10 minutes walk from everything you need and want to see in Trieste. If you want to go to the beach, you can use the public bus directly. The kitchen is fully equipped. Apartman is spacious with all things necessary for a relaxed stay. It can accommodate 4 people. We stayed with 2 kids - 10 and 13 years old. Huge recommendation.
Staff was very friendly, helped with all I needed. Room was clean and absolutely matched puctures. In general it was the most stylish hotel I've ever stayed in. And tableware was just perfect. Good location: close to the railway station and the sea. And they had hot mint tea in the hotel in the middle of summer in Italy, where no restaurants had it
The property is centrally located and easily accessible from Trieste Centrale or the Main Bus Station. It’s within walking distance of the canals and waterfront. The apartment was bright, cheerful, spacious and immaculate! Air conditioning was a plus with the warm weather and high humidity. This apartment is great for a couple or solo traveler.
Our stay at the Le Saline luxury guest house was awesome. Clean, comfortable and perfect location. We were able to visit so many places and enjoy the historic and cultural areas. The staff was responsive and accommodating. We love it here and in Trieste in general. What an amazing city. E stato spettacolare! Grazie!
The place was in the very center and the process of getting in the apartment was very smooth. The apartment was very spacious and absolutely perfect for family with two teens. It was very clean and we consider us to be so lucky to get this one for our stay in Trieste. Looking forward to go there again.
A really nice and small boutique hotel in a silent area (residential area and college) of Trieste not far away from the center (1.5 km or 20 min walk to the Piazza Unità d'Italia). Good breakfast and friendly staff. Absolutely to recommend for a stay in Trieste.
The Urban Hotel Design is located in a very strategic place: near to the center of Trieste and to the parking lot.
The staff was amazing and kind. They suggested me a very nice restaurant for dinner.
The hotel clean and the room very huge!
Breakfast TOP
Great apartment, spacious, clean, comfy and fully equipped. Close to the city by car- 10 min (5km). Safe place, where you can park the car for free. The hosts are also nice people.
Trieste is such a nice city to enjoy beach and food. Great services
We took a Junior Suite. The Hotel is worth it. Directly at the city. The rooms comfortable and the bed was a dream.
Whenever I come back to Trieste, I will take this Hotel.
Thank you for everything and unforgettable stay…
Location was perfect and the room was comfortable, spacious, nicely decorated and clean.
Hotel staff was very attentive and helpful to our needs. Definitely to-go place if visiting Trieste.
