The place was very clean and spacious, and had everything we needed! Eileen was also the best hostess, very caring and accommodating. She even left yummy treats for the night and morning. We would absolutely stay there again!
This was a great place to explore the surrounding areas.
This was a great place to explore the surrounding areas. It also has a castle in the area and an association with the film The Quiet Man. It is a friendly town with 2 supermarkets and a number of places to eat.

A cute small town with nice restaurants and cafes.
A cute small town with nice restaurants and cafes. A few nice shops. Nice place to stay I'd you're traveling around Connemara. It's about and hour to Kylemore Abby as well as to the ferry or airport that gets you to the Aran Islands. Definitely work a stop if you have some time. Powers is a wonderful pub and restaurant.

Good base for touring Connemara and Mayo. No meals in Hotel.
Good base for touring Connemara and Mayo. No meals in Hotel. We ate our evening meal at pub/restaurant across road from Hotel. I can't remember name but it had a thatched roof and food was excellent.

It is a small town with a village atmosphere.
It is a small town with a village atmosphere. It's not far from Galway city centre and as hotels can be pricey in the city I would strongly suggest travellers take a look at this as an alternative. The town is filled with pubs and eateries and places to stay. I stayed at the Connemara Lake Hotel, right in the centre of the town and rate it highly. As a solo traveller I found the area friendly and welcoming. There is a small castle nearby which is worth a quick look, but the Glengowla Mines four kilometres away on the road to Clifden is a treat. Really interesting and the scenery out towards the coastal town of Clifden is beautiful. A lovely part of the world.
Wow, what a fabulous place to stay - big bed, huge shower, great kitchen and living room areas, with everything high quality and stylish. Louise kindly let us have some turf so we could light the French stove which was so cozy. We were so glad we choose Oughterard rather than Galway as the traffic in Galway is horrible! This was a perfect place to explore Connemara and return "home" to this comfortable space. The town is about 15 minutes walk away and has a selection of places to eat, if you don't want to cook, but bring a torch!
We were doing s tour of Ireland and as it was a Saturday all the hotels in the area were full so we booked the guest house. I think the lady who ran the guest house was called Patricia, she was very welcoming, friendly and knowledgable of amenities in the area. The guest house is situated just outside a lovely little town with a great thatched pub called Powers which served superb food. We would definitely stay again if we are in the area. By the way my husband said it wss the best Urush breakfast we had during the holiday
Breakfast was excellent. Once acclimated the location proved excellent.. A comfortable drive to Kylemore Abbey and Ashford Castle. A nice and affordable golf course nearby and and a beautiful lake for boating and fishing just down the street. Also a boxing club and football club in town. The town of Oughterard had a few nice Pub's and a grocery that was well stocked. Our host Christian was great and his new puppy Emily couldn't be more adorable
We stayed here for one week as we explored County Galway. The house is centrally located, so it was easy to get everywhere we wanted to go within one hour. Mary and Gerry are fantastic hosts and made us feel right at home. Mary gave us great suggestions of things to do and places to eat in the area. Each morning we had a hot breakfast prepared to order. We wanted a local Irish place to stay, and that is exactly what we got!
What a wonderful 3 nights in Oughterard. Gregory and Deirdre are amazing hosts. Deirdre generously loaned her golf trolley for my round at Oughterard Golf Course, which was just minutes away.
The location is idyllic... along the river, with a trail (short cut) into town.
Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Enjoyed visiting with the other guests while we ate.
Would love to come back during fishing season.
Location was great. Des was very friendly and helpful, and put us at ease straight away. Great facilities for the independent traveller with a kitchen to cook meals and plenty of space. It was a shame we were only staying one night. If we had more time it would be a terrific base to spend some days exploring Connemara. Oughterard is also a very cute and charming town.
We enjoyed our stay at Camillaun very much. Deidre and Greg are great hosts - freindly and helpful. Excellent breakfast! The location is very convenient - a pleasant, short walk to Oughterard, which is a lovely little town that's a good jumping off point for exploring Connemara and Galway. House has a fantastic snooker table too!
Great location, close to town and just a walk down the road to some excellent pubs and restaurants. The facilities were nice and breakfast was excellent, although the breakfast room can be a bit chilly in the morning. Not far from Galway if you want to stay close but in a more affordable area. Staff were very helpful.
This was one of the best, if not the best hotel experience of the last 5-10 years. Large and extremely cozy rooms, very attentive room service, fantastic breakfast and dinner, great location, and above all the friendliness and warmth of the host Henry. It couldn’t have been better, except the weather maybe.
The hostess was delightful. Breakfast was excellent; plus it was an actual home-made breakfast. The area around the hotel is residential and nice to walk through. Plus the village next door was an excellent surprise: if it hadn't been for this hotel we wouldn't have stopped in Oughterard.
Everything about our stay at Woodlands was superb. Barbara is a great host; she even managed to get our wet motorcycle gear dry. The house is a short walk from Oughterard with bars and shops, and a good bus service to Galway city. Thoroughly recommended.
Patricia really looked after me with lovely breakfasts and great recommendations for dinner in Oughterard. Room was cosy which was needed considering the weather. Sleet and snow in March?!
The location is beautiful, quiet and scenic. We had a very nice room, amazing bed. The hotel was spotless and there was always a friendly face to greet us. We felt very well looked after.
Great location, great value. rooms were basic and you had to wait a full 10 minutes for the hot water in the shower to heat up as per a notice from the hotel staff in the bathroom
Barbara was warm and welcoming. Ever so kind. Very comfortable stay. So close to the lovely town with restaurants and live music. We had a wonderful stay!
