We stayed at Wheatsheaf Hotel, and it was superb.

We stayed at Wheatsheaf Hotel, and it was superb. Swinton is a very small, remote village in the Scottish borders. It appears on this, our first visit, to be sleepy and have little to do, but this was in January so it is probably not a true reflection. There are, however, a number of bigger towns within a reasonably short drive. so a car is essential to get about.

Booked last minute due to a train strike, and what a find. Great traditional hotel in a lovely village setting. Very good food (both evening meal & breakfast) and the real ale looked good too (I did not try sadly). Staff are very friendly and welcoming. I needed to work and they pointed me to a downstairs table, WiFi and looked after me until done. If you go take any books DVDs you no longer want and check out the bus stop near the old church which is a community swap stop! (although you may come away with replacements :) )

The hotel is really comfortable and tastefully decorated loved the monks benches etc. We stayed in room 1 and we loved the comfort and size of the bed, the bathroom and the fact it was overlooking the green. Couldn't fault anything the staff were lovely and the dinner we had at the hotel was excellent, breakfast was the same with a wide choice of dishes. We will definitely stay again and already looking forward to it.

The hotel was very nice and the staff friendly. We had a late change of dates due to a bereavement. Even though we had prepaid and there were no cancellation / refund options open to us via booking.com I called the hotel direct and they helped me change dates with no penalty. They were very accommodating. Evening dinner was excellent and the atmosphere in the restaurant really good.

Beautiful location, garden was lovely. House was an amazing warren of interesting rooms for the kids to explore. Lots of sofas for lounging about in the evening. The kitchen was big enough to cook big dinners for everyone and sit down at the big kitchen table to eat. Lovely views from all the windows. Nice little pub just along the road in Swinton with a beer garden.

Lovely country hotel in a small village, just a few miles to coast or places of interest. Comfortable room, nicely furnished. Very dog friendly. Excellent menu, not too expensive. If we lived closer we’d use it regularly.
