Walled Gateway to France
One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.
The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.
Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.
The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.
In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.
Saint Malo is a very interesting and beautiful town.
Saint Malo is a very interesting and beautiful town. It has something for everyone, whether couples or families. Outstanding medieval walled city rich in centuries of history. Inside the walled city is a beautiful labyrinth of cobbled lanes and alleys, filled with cafes, shops, restaurants and hotels. A truely unique experience that visitors should invest time to discover all there is to see. The changing tides and the effect on the local coast is remarkable to see. Best to visit at low tide.

Shopping is a lovely experience and lots of bars. restaurants and bistros to choose from. Ideal for all ages and something for everyone. In Summer take swimming gear to dive into the outdoor pool on the beach.

Lovely place to visit for a long weekend ; great beaches and restaurants. We ate at Le Cale in Solidor ; great seafood but quite pricey and in a great location overlooking the bay. The Creperie also great for snacks, tapas and drinks. Great atmosphere and great views and great value for money.
Intra muros really interesting and great to walk around walls. Enjoyed walking around the peninsula between Solidor and St Malo . A great walk parc Solidor with fab views and a great private beach at low tide.
We were just out of season so weren't able to to use the sea bus across to Dinard as planned.
We were very warmly welcomed by a very sympathetic receptionist who explained to us all important things for our stay in Saint Malo. The hotel has a typical French charme (for me as a foreigner, at least). The location is great - you are directly in the walled city and can fully enjoy this historical place. We had a nice view from our room. Parking was also much easier than expected - we found a spot in the same street and over night, it´s free of charge. You only have to pay after 9am next day.
We love St. Malo. The hotel is in an excellent location, close to all the amenities of Intra Muros. Love sitting outside, having a drink and watching the world go by!
We were very happy with our room. It was spacious and although there was "no view", it was quiet! Not disturbed by the packing away of tables and chairs in the early hours of the morning or the sound of the bins being emptied!
We always get breakfast at the hotel when we get off the ferry. It is the best meal of the holiday!
The room, the bed and the bathroom, including a very comfortable bathtub, are very spacious. The location is perfect, which is of course also due to the fact that the old town is rather small within the city walls. It is easy to get to the beach from anywhere or to the centre of Saint-Malo. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The hotel and the surrounding area are relatively quiet (which unfortunately cannot be said for the seagulls that make a fuss day and night :D).
I love to stay at this hotel. The staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. The location is incredible. It is fun to stay inside the walled city and there are several restaurants right in front of the hotel ... it is a "happening place". Best to plan to park outside the walled city and walk your luggage in (we use a small carry bag and leave the suitcases in the trunk for such situations). One of the best things to see in St. Malo is the difference between high and low tides.
Lovely little apartment, well equipped with everything you need. Very easy to settle in. Good communication from hosts. Very quirky building! Boulangerie and mini supermarket across the road, very convenient. 30 min walk to old walled city, 5 min drive to ferry terminal. TV, Nespresso coffee machine, oven, dishwasher all provided as well as towels and linen. We had a lovely final night in France in this apartment!
Charming hotel, 2 min walk from the beach with cute little balcony to admire the life of a town.
Exceptionally clean room, comfortable beds, restaurant on the ground floor open until 9-10 PM. Very convenient if arriving late. Other reviews indicated it was noisy, we didn't notice any noise from restaurant, but we were on the 3d floor. Very helpful staff. Great value!
Everything about this hotel was positive.
The location was excellent. In the heart of the walls. This hotel is family owned, so they went above and beyond. Lobby and room were modern. Breakfast is availible. They have an elevator, which is important in old towns. St malo was a great place to spend a few days!
The manager was very helpful and stored our bikes for us overnight. He also let us drop our bags off early and put them in our room. The room was spacious and well decorated. The hotel is in a quiet location but also close to the main centre of the old town.
We just needed a short overnight stay on the way to our ferry. The hotel had an excellent location and was walking distance from the old town. We didn’t require breakfast. Price was ok but would have been better value for money if a little cheaper
The location is excellent, in the old town right with restaurants and shops everywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not as plentiful as I hoped. But I enjoyed our stay in the hotel very much mainly for the location.
A comfortable hotel in a spectacular beachside location in a pleasant suburb of St Malo. There are excellent restaurants nearby and the walled city is an enjoyable 30-minute walk away. The staff are friendly and attentive
The hotel has an amazing location in front of the beach and very close to the old city. Rooms had an amazing view to the see and to the fort and were very comfortable. The SPA area is a great addition to the hotel.
Location fantastic for train station. 15 min easy walk to old walled city. Clean, modern hotel with helpful staff. For a 6 am train, they even opened breakfast room a little earlier to offer some coffee, options.
This is a splendid period hotel in a beautiful location within easy walking distance of the seafront and the walled city of St Malo. The garden is lovely and the rooms are ornate, stylish and comfortable.
The hotel was beach front. The scenery was gorgeous. Although it’s about 30min walk to the big gate of the old town, we could easily find a way there. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The location of the hotel is within the walled city and is perfect for any one interested in exploring the city. Though a 3 star, its very comfortable and cosy. My family enjoyed the stay there.
Room very good, breakfast excellent for our needs, and easy to find a parking space outside the hotel - maybe becasue it was a Sunday evening when we arrived for the early morning ferry.
