Mama Root is the perfect getaway in Zanzibar. The property is right on one of the most gorgeous and less touristy beaches, the hotel is small and intimate, the included breakfast is great (lots of fresh fruits fruits and your choice of eggs or pancakes), and the owners and staff are amazing and always checking in to make sure all your needs are met. I stayed at Shanka's a whole week just because I found it hard to leave! :) Everything was lovely, from the garden with great places to hang out, through the beautiful huge bedroom, to the best breakfasts I've had! Oh, and she also makes delicious cakes!!! Shanka really spoiled me & went out of her way to make sure I had the best time staying there - including watching a movie one evening, & helping me out with tips for my journey. So, who would want to leave such a garden of paradise? 🤗

Amazing location and value for money. All the surrounding places cost twice as much. The owner was super attentive and helped us find a good captain/low price to go swimming with the dolphins. It was only a 5 minute walk on the beach to get to the boats who would take us. Breakfast was lovely, the view was beautiful, the bed was comfy, overall a really lovely stay.
