Accessing our bath was hard as it was very deep meaning a high step in and out. As a historic building the windows are not double glazed so noise from the road and outside is fairly high.

The hotel had changed ownership from Shangra-La to Sonder. Just know before you go. It is no longer a full service hotel but more an upscale motel. No typical hotel services; no room service, no daily housekeeping (available for an addtl fee?!) no hotel bar, no pool service. What’s the point of staying at a hotel if not a bit of luxury. Just seems like a waste of a beautiful location.

One of the elevators was not working, but it is not the end of the world.

I really liked the professionalism of the reception guests/workers Ray, Jasmine, and Emily. The security worker from Senegal, and evening reception guests/workers (please forgive me for not asking them their names...), were equally as courteous and professional to us, throughout our entire stay, also. They were very understanding, while remaining professional throughout the entire week of our stay. I ask kindly, if someone could thank them (via a raise, bonus, gift... I have stayed in this hotel several times and I love the location and the single rooms. This was the first time I have stayed in a double bedroom and it wasn’t the same. The layout of the room is quite strange with two separate rooms and two separate bathrooms that are not connected.

I thought the staff were lovely and was such smart idea with how everything flows through the hotel.

The manager from the restaurant told me I was rude when I asked for bread with the $45Charcuterie board., that came with only 4 breadsticks. She was unequipped to deal with elders and was condescending. Someone was smoking somewhere and when I left my door open to get some air the smoke went right into the room.

Shower over bath was not in good repair, bath was very high, a challenge for a 6’ adult to get in and out of! Floor space was very limited, smaller than many Zhong Kong rooms.

No housekeeping service despite being billed as 4-star hotel. Self-replenishment of coffee and towels, and emptying trash was not expected. Too little space between bed and counter area Smell or trash in the stairwell

The sonder would be even better with the pool bar open and a coffee shop in the entrance lounge

We loved the close proximity to great restaurants and santa monica Pier and the beach, The pool was so lovely, We stayed in room 206, which is a one bedroom apartment with a kitchen, it has a great fridge freezer, The keypad entry is brilliant, I definitely will be staying here.

Bathroom was a good size but could do with an upgrade (eg have a walk-in shower). Also could have more TV channels available (including CNN).

Location was great - close to many restaurants, shops and beach in beautiful Santa Monica. Swimming pool was good, with plenty of sun loungers near pool, as well as shaded areas.

It's set up a bit differently to a normal hotel in that there are less staff, check in is all online. It was all fine, but it felt a bit sterile.

That they charge a normal hotel rate but operate on an “airbnb” process…. Where you have to change your towels and they don’t clean your room until you leave. Which wasn’t clear when we booked and strange for the price point of the stay
