How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The room had a couple of maintenance items (one window did not lock; could not lock safe).
The check-in staff were extremely kind. We arrived early after docking in Southampton, and were exhausted. They released a room to us early. The lift was appreciated for luggage. It is in a pedestrian area, and also very close to a bus stop.

The location was excellent - 5 minutes walk to the ocean and 10 minutes to the town. There was a lovely lounge with a bar and the host was very friendly and helpful. There was a fridge in the room too.

They advertised, if you book directly with them you would get the best price. When i tried this the cost was dearer than booking externally and they would not honour their advertisement. For this reason i would not stay here again.

Being told that I would have to pay a £10 postage charge to have my phone charger returned to me, that I left plugged in one of their wall sockets. I accept that I should pay postage but £10 seems fairly steep to me.
I got absolutely lost trying to find The Grove on foot and it turned into a bit of a nightmare. Google maps and booking.com were no use whatsoever. Personally North West or South East direction means nothing to me. I was so relieved to finally arrive and so pleasantly surprised especially coinsidering that you can get a room for such a reason able price. The room was lovely and clean and very modern. Yes, the bathroom was small and the shower a bit tight on space but very clean and modern, far outweighs the cons, if that is what I have to call them. There was a clothes hanger for several items of clothing and I was provided with towels. The bed was firm but comfy just the same as the pillows and everything was spotlessly clean. I wasn't disturbed by noise during the night and slept well. I went down for breakfast before 8am and it was very quiet. I had a lovely cooked breakfast, with plenty of choice, mushrooms were done very well as well as the fried bread. Very impressive for a buffet style breakfast and the tables were dressed very nicely. A lovely inviting room with a couple of very attractive glass chandeliers. The breakfast room looked out onto the garden which I couldn't seem to access but didn't ask either.

Not enough parking spaces at the front but there are spaces at the back to make up for it.
Perfect hotel for the elderly with wheel chair access. A no-children hotel that is pleasantly peaceful and quiet. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is satisfactory.

No fridge in the room… but was ok for a short stay.
Nice quiet hotel with lovely helpful staff. In particular 1 lady called Redente who recommended some lovely local restaurants and sights to visit.

The outer view isn't really impressive. However, inside is very clean and beautiful.
I really enjoyed the English breakfast. The hotel is located 5 mins walk to the beach, 2 mins walk to the bus stop and about 10 mins walk to the Town centre. The hotel beautifully located.

The breakfast was buffet style and good quality but could have been warmer. Dining room comfortable and tables well spaced out. We were given a free upgrade, lovely room, very comfortable. Staff friendly and very helpful. The hotel is in a great location, really close to the town and the beaches but also in a quiet street away from the busy main road.

Did not know that parking charge had increased to 10£/day.The shower space is particularly very small.
Staff friendly.The Hotel is kept very clean.Could improve on the options for Breakfast.Great location. Would recommend to stay for short visits.Convenient bus stop close by and easy access to town centre.

Could do with a bigger car park
I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel, rather interesting history too. Ideal for going out and about as it was only a short walk to the beach. Me and my fiance enjoyed how relaxed the atmosphere was.
